Retail stores or entrepreneurs in the industry who feel they've created a positive impact in some way are being prompted to submit videos of their efforts by the National Retail Federation (NRF) for its This is Retail campaign.

Whether it be creating customer satisfaction and loyalty by implementing effective customer service initiatives or putting together a marketing campaign that helped drive traffic, any current employee or owner of a U.S. retail business aged 18 years or older can compete.

The goal of the This is Retail campaign is to "demonstrate the multitude of career choices and employment opportunities within America's robust retail industry, which supports one in four American jobs," according to NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. He added that the contest will "put a face on an industry that is seamlessly woven into the fabric of America and influences every aspect of our life and culture."

First place winners will earn $25,000, with $15,000 for second place finishers and $10,000 for third place.

In order to further demonstrate retail's importance in America's fabric, the NRF recently issued an open letter to President Barack Obama, asking him to submit a call to action during his State of the Union address on January 24.
